SY Precision Manufacturing manufactured and exported a custom aluminum cabinet for a customer in Spain for use in local trainsets. The project combined aluminum profile fabrication, frame welding, sheet metal fabrication and mechanical assembly, meeting requirements for both a lightweight structure and dimensional accuracy.
The cabinet has passed fatigue testing and relevant design verification, meeting the specified fatigue performance requirements. Given the vibration and repeated loading encountered in railway service, weld quality and structural consistency were key priorities throughout manufacturing.
Export destination: Spain
Application: Trainset equipment
Product: Custom aluminum cabinet assembly
Manufacturing scope: Aluminum profile fabrication, frame welding, sheet metal fabrication and mechanical assembly
Surface requirements: Original aluminum surface, without painting, powder coating or other surface treatments
Dimensional requirements: Frame diagonal dimensional tolerance within ±1 mm
Performance verification: Passed fatigue testing and relevant design verification
The aluminum structure helps reduce cabinet weight, while the fit between the frame, sheet metal components and mounting parts requires accurate manufacturing.
For this project, frame diagonal dimensions were controlled within a tolerance of ±1 mm. Dimensional changes and weld distortion were monitored throughout fabrication, welding and assembly to ensure proper component fit.
Cabinets used in trainsets must account for vibration and repeated loading during service. Design verification and fatigue testing establish whether the structure meets the specified requirements, while manufacturing must consistently implement the drawings and process specifications.
Key controls for this project covered weld length, width, penetration, consistency and appearance. Particular attention was also paid to weld distortion and joint quality to ensure that the finished assembly met the design requirements.
The customer required the finished assembly to retain its original aluminum surface, with only limited local finishing permitted where necessary.
Without a coating, scratches, dents and variations in weld appearance remain visible on the finished product. Surface quality therefore needed to be controlled throughout fabrication, welding, handling and final assembly.
For this type of product, appearance is part of the acceptance criteria. Dimensional accuracy, weld quality and surface condition must be controlled together.
This project demonstrates SY Precision Manufacturing’s ability to coordinate aluminum fabrication, welding, sheet metal manufacturing and mechanical assembly. By aligning dimensional control, surface protection during handling and assembly requirements across each stage, we turn customer drawings into cabinet assemblies that meet the specified technical requirements.
